Saturday Snapshot -- Signs of Spring

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post on Alyce's blog At Home With Books. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.
This week, the weather continued to be mild, and as I came home from work one afternoon, I noticed some fresh, painfully hopeful green sprouting in my flower gardens.

The plants and the earth are obviously confused by this very warm winter. They're deciding to begin sprouting.
And look at the contrast between the newly green plants and last-year's weathered mulch.

Then this morning we awoke to a few inches of heavy, wet snow and 11 degrees.

I hope those green sprouts are insulated from the cold by the snow. I'm ready for them.
This reminded me of the first time Earl and I traveled to Europe together after we had been married for a year. We stayed in a chalet in the Alps one night and when we woke up the next morning -- snow! On the tulips. Here's a copy of the picture.

Enjoy your day.

Hi Paulita,

Winter was very mild here, up until about two weeks ago, when along with the rest of Europe, the cold set in big time!

As I live in the South of the UK, the weather here is always a little more temperate than the rest of the country, so it hasn't really been too bad.

Our first real sign that Spring is on the way, are when the snowdrop fields open for display and visiting, which has started in earnest this weekend.

Stay warm and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I was afraid of this too, my bulbs are peeking through as well. Great photos.

Wow, I am a winter person, but these signs that spring is on the way makes me a little excited! Those are great pictures, the contrast is amazing!
Although, I must say I am jealous of your snow.

Are those Hyacinths popping their heads up? Mine are up too. I keep dumping leaf mulch on them and hoping they go back to sleep. We got snow yesterday too.

I've been seeing little buds on my pansies and hoping that we don't get a cold spell because I would love an early spring. And I've had tulip bulbs waiting to be planted for months. I think I might just have to break down and hire the neighbor girl to plant them for me.

We had some sprouts coming up last week, too. Today, I've got 6" of snow, so I hope they're keeping their roots warm!

We've had such a mild winter lots of stuff is budding and now we're having a cold snap. It might not be a very pretty spring.

Green straining to win the battle...again. It's so hopeful. We're in the midst of a cold snap here in the south...and I feel like I'm going to snap! I need to take a walk today and see if I can find a similar, hopeful sign of spring.

Cockadoodle Doo or Cocorico?
