Dreaming of France -- Colored LIghts

Thank you for joining this weekly meme. Grab a copy of the photo above and link back to An Accidental Blog. Share with the rest of us your passion for France. Did you read a good book set in France? See a movie? Take a photo in France? Have an adventure? Eat a fabulous meal or even just a pastry? Or if you're in France now, go ahead and lord it over the rest of us. We can take it.

I've never been in France for Christmas, but I've heard some stories, including the fact that everything is closed. In the U.S., you can usually find a gas station or grocery store open, although I try not to go to any stores on Christmas Day. And Chinese restaurants are always open on Christmas.
As we've celebrated today, with all of our children coming home to gather around the tree and open presents before a trip to Earl's sister's house for Christmas lunch, I kept imagining how different our celebration will be next year if we're living in France. I still hope our children will join us. We'll see what happens.
The closest thing I have to a Christmas picture is this colored-light reflection of stained glass.

Grace took this photo when blogging friend Linda Mathieu met her and gave her a tour of Montmartre, including Sacre Coeur. The light reflecting off the stained glass windows on these columns look like those new Christmas lights which shine on houses and rotate around in red and green.
And here's another shot from Grace from the viewpoint of Montmartre, showing the far-away Eiffel Tower.

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas day. Hope to see you all in the new year.

Thanks for playing along with Dreaming of France. Please leave your name and blog address in Mr. Linky below, and leave a comment letting me know what  you think about my love affair with France, or your own passion for the country and its people and cultures. Also consider visiting the blogs of others who play along so we can all share the love.

Dreaming of France -- Outdoors in Autumn

What is it about France that makes even the approaching winter more acceptable?
Here's a photo taken in Autumn in Montmartre of an outdoor cafe. Yes, I'd be willing to sit outside and drink some mulled wine. Not in Ohio, but in Paris. Mais oui!

Grace took this picture when my blogger friend Linda Mathieu accompanied her on a tour of the area. Someday soon, I plan to get over to France and meet Linda in person too.
Hope you all are enjoying your French dreams. Please visit each other's blogs to see what everyone else is sharing.

As much as I love visiting many parts of France, I can't get over the excitement of Paris.
And I love going to Montmartre so all of Paris is spread out at my feet.
This is such a clean shot of Sacre Coeur. It looks pristine and artsy doesn't it?

Earl and I are on the steps in front of Sacre Coeur. He's so tall, you can't really see Paris spread out behind us, but take my word for it that it is there in all its glory.
I hope you'll visit each other's websites to see more glimpses of France and know you aren't the only one dreaming of France.

Dreaming of France -- Art is Everywhere

Here's a photo of a street sign in Montmartre that my daughter Grace took while touring the area with Linda from Frenchless in France.
The red sign with the white bar normally means "interdit" or "do not enter." The sign underneath that says "sauf" with the bicycle means except bicycles.
Someone has etched a person carrying the white bar. I love the way the figure looks as if it's struggling under the weight of the white bar.
I'm not sure how or why the artist or graffiti-ist did this, but I think it's awfully clever.
Hope you are all dreaming of France too.

This particular cafe was in Montmartre.

Here's another photo from Tucker's school trip to France. I love the richness of it.
I'm really hankering for France this week so can't wait to see what you all are posting.

For today, I'll share some photos from Montmartre that Grace took last fall when my blogging friend Linda Mathieu of Frenchless in France took Grace on a tour.

Here are some of the traditional artists.
I wonder if the couple on the left side are French or tourists?

I love the sunbeam shining down on this artist.

I'm anxious to see what you all have to share. I know that Esme from Chocolate and Croissants just got back from a trip to France.

Saturday Snapshot-- Stained Glass Reflection

To participate in the Saturday Snapshot meme post a photo that you (or a friend or family member) have taken then leave a direct link to your post on Alyce's blog At Home With Books. Photos can be old or new, and be of any subject as long as they are clean and appropriate for all eyes to see. How much detail you give in the caption is entirely up to you. Please don’t post random photos that you find online.

Grace took this photo while touring a church in Montmartre in Paris. I could assume that this is Sacre Coeur, but I can't ask her right now because she is partying in Rome this weekend. I think she took this shot during her visit with Linda who writes the blog Frenchless in France.
I love the way the colors reflect on the columns.

The Olympic Cauldron

Many people visit Paris in August, but mostly they run into other tourists. This year, there seem to be fewer tourists throughout the city ...
