When we stayed at my parents' house in Florida, we heard the Sandhill Cranes calling a lot, but didn't get to see them that often. Here's a shot of them fairly close.
They're pretty big birds. Probably up to my shoulder when they're standing upright.
They're protected in Florida, but I've read that they are hunted in other states.
Hearing them warble in the morning as the sun was rising made me feel like I was in Africa.

That must be such a lovely sound! Gorgeous shots, too. Thanks for sharing.
Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST
If you sprayed them pink, you could get a new garden art trend going. :)
Lots of bird photos today....A sign that spring has come, maybe?
Here's my Saturday Snapshot.
That's a bird I'll never get to see unless I go somewhere far. Thanks for sharing... they are exotic to me! ;)
How cool....I am glad that they are protected in Fla.
Such beautiful birds! I love the way they walk, and you captured it perfectly in this photo.
They're very unusual looking, at least to me.
Very unusual for me, too. Love how I'm seeing Spring all over, as it really isn't here very believably yet!
It's always special hearing birds like that- they sure are large. We don't have cranes where I live in Australia, acutally I'm not sure that we have cranes at all, would love to see some. Thanks for showing us these.
We get cranes flying over on their migratory route and it is a fantastic sight. Probably a different European breed though!
How cool, but waking up to the sound of noisy birds is not fun:)
Your parent's home just keeps getting better ..... I'm awe struck. Great picture too.
Cool birds....Happy Sunday♥ My SS: http://lore-eleven.blogspot.com/2013/03/moonball-caught-in-tree.html
They've been flying over my area for the past two weeks in huge flocks on their way north to Canada. I can always hear them before I see them. Several states do allow them to be hunted which makes no sense to me. They are migratory birds and should be protected by Federal law.
