Dreaming of France -- Football

Thank you for joining this weekly meme. Grab a copy of the photo above and link back to An Accidental Blog. Share with the rest of us your passion for France. Did you read a good book set in France? See a movie? Take a photo in France? Have an adventure? Eat a fabulous meal or even just a pastry? Or if you're in France now, go ahead and lord it over the rest of us. We can take it.
Here in the U.S., we are all gathering around our televisions to celebrate American football with the Super Bowl, so I thought I'd show you our experience with European football.
When we traveled to Europe in 2006, the boys loved our hotel room view in Bandol -- not because we could see the Mediterranean but because we overlooked a large soccer field. Soccer to us, football to Europeans.
At the time, Spencer was more into soccer than Tucker, but he convinced his brother to join him.

Tucker is wearing the Beckham shirt

Spencer is wearing the Inter Milan soccer shirt.

And the boys eventually made friends with some French boys who played soccer with them.
This was the kind of international experience we wanted them to have.
They couldn't actually speak to each other, but they managed to play some Football until some grown up yelled at them to get off the field.
I hope everyone else has a sportif weekend, whether you're watching the Super Bowl or not.
Thanks for playing along and please visit the blogs of others who join in too.

A neighbor, who developed a taste for the NFL while working in the U.S. for years, stays up all night in order to watch the game on satellite TV.
Your banner photo is spectacular.

Francetaste, I know that if we want to watch football we will still be able to track it down when we are in France.
I'm glad you like my new banner photo. It is one I took in 2015 and the clouds formed just perfectly over the tip of the pyramid.

I was struck by your new header photo too! Love it. Very exciting game, and Lady Gaga not too shabby either.

Bonjour Paulita ! I' m a big football fan ( soccer for you in the US , former player as well, but I love U.S. Football ( as we say here ). I found out this magnificent sport in 1984 ( through french TV Canal+ at the time ).Great performances by Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Terrell Davis or Shannon Sharpe at the time make me fan of the San Francisco 49ers until now! I watched ( on Beinsport TV channel ) Superbowl LI all night long between midnight to 4h30 a.m.( wake up for job at 6 am ... a little harsh indeed ... ). But it was worth it. What a Game! What a fabulous Superbowl final! The best game of Football I' ve ever seen since 1984! Thus, when you' ll live in Occitanie , you can easily look at on your TV the seasons of NFL ( +6 to +9 hours of time difference with U.S.A.).

Sim, Thanks. I like the switch too. Yes, the game was exciting, except the 3rd quarter, which I slept through.
Philippe, I can't believe you stayed up to watch the game, but that is a devoted fan. Are you still a 49ers fan?

I am still a faithfull 49ers fan. Even though they aren't at the top of the NFL for a long time ( except in 2012 indeed ). Do you know there is a Football league in France since 1982? 8 teams take part in this championship and the final game is named " Casque de Diamant " ( " Diamond Helmet " ). The last two teams on Final game take part also in an European championship later in the year.So you can see that US Football becomes more and more popular in this part of the world.

Philippe, That's exciting to know. American football is my favorite sport, but I'm hoping to largely stay away from television when I move to France. Maybe I can go watch the Casque de Diamant in person!
Hope your 49ers do better next year.

Cockadoodle Doo or Cocorico?
