FOMO

This morning, my eyes popped open early, sometime between 5 and 6 a.m. My initial reaction to waking up is to hop out of bed. Most  mornings, I go for a run, or walk with a friend, or stumble to my computer to write.
But I had decided to try to stay in bed longer this morning to snuggle with my husband.
So after I got up to go to the bathroom, I returned to bed. I gave my husband a brief backrub and tried to quiet my mind to lie still for another hour or so until my husband got up to get ready for work.
"Oh, like it's so hard to stay in bed," he teased as he kissed and went to get ready for work.
But it is for me. When I wake up, I have a surge of energy. I want to see what has happened in the world while I slept.
I had no idea there was a name for this urge until I caught my college son up at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The big football game was scheduled for noon so he was busy on his phone texting friends.
"Why are you up so early?" I asked him.
"FOMO," he said. "Fear of Missing Out!"
Oh! That's what I have. That's why I can never sleep in. What if I'm missing something fun?
On Tuesday, I woke up and checked the weather app. Rain had been predicted but, joyously, I saw cloudy skies.
"No rain!" I said.
"No wind," my husband muttered.
Which only reminded me of the song, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." So I jumped out of bed singing the song.
"No wind, no rain
Or winters cold can stop me baby"
My husband rolled his eyes, but he loves me.

How bout you? Do you have FOMO or do you like to sleep in?

Ok, you guys are too cute. Just saying.

I'm definitely an early riser. I think I love mornings because I feel like I have the world (inside and out) to myself. But honestly I know no other way to be.

I'm wondering if anyone, even our beloved night owls can have a FOMO. I've been trying to limit the time I devote to presidential news these days but it's been difficult. I'm either experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms after a year of 24/7 coverage or I too, have a FOMO.

Just Me, One thing I don't have FOMO of is politics. I can barely listen to NPR politics anymore. (Of course, I'm still mad at them because they didn't prepare me for the election results.)
I agree that it is lovely to have the house or even the outdoors to yourself in the early morning.

My husband would kill me if I started singing.
I am more of a morning person than a night owl, but not too early. 7 is about right. My FitBit has been a wake-up call (ha ha) that I don't have good sleep quality. I get about 5 hours a night for 8 hours in bed. I'm trying different things to improve it.
As for FOMO, I definitely feel it, like Just Me, for news and information. Not much for keeping up with the in crowd.

Now we are retired we dont get up so early, I guess we are more like slugs than whippets, we dont see the point of getting up while it is still dark, we dont go to bed until after midnight, we like our full 8 hours snuggled under the duvet 😊
