Dreaming of France -- Musée d'Orsay

Thank you for joining this weekly meme. Grab a copy of the photo above and link back to An Accidental Blog. Share with the rest of us your passion for France. Did you read a good book set in France? See a movie? Take a photo in France? Have an adventure? Eat a fabulous meal or even just a pastry? Or if you're in France now, go ahead and lord it over the rest of us. We can take it.

One morning in Paris last year, Earl was feeling under the weather, and he sent me off to the Musée d'Orsay. After waiting in line, I rambled around the museum.
I discovered this new impressionist artist, Pierre Bonnard and I really loved his style.

I could stand to have one of his paintings in my house. I love the detail on the wallpaper below.

Have you heard of Bonnard before?
Whenever I'm at the Musée d'Orsay, I like to stop in the café for something to eat, but this time I wandered over to the fancy restaurant side of the museum. Look at this hallway. The parquet floors look beautiful too.

And through these closed doors, you can see the ceiling above the diners. I'm kind of intimidated by fancy restaurants, but someday maybe I'll try it.

Do you visit museums on vacation? What's your favorite painting at Musée d;Orsay?

Thanks so much for playing along with Dreaming of France. I really appreciate your participation and I hope you'll leave a comment plus visit each other's blogs.

My local museum (LACMA) has 7 pieces by Bonnard! Unfortunately none of them are on public view! Imagine, all those works of art wrapped up in their basement, and you without a Bonnard on your wall! I visited Musee D’Orsay back in the 80’s, and what I really remember is the architecture!
BUT it is home to so many amazing and important works of art. I’d probably say Renoir’s ‘Bal du Moulin de la Galette’ depicting the cafe society of Paris is my fave. Such an exciting painting and period! Sigh. We only have his 2 Girls Reading at LACMA which is very sweet and staid. We also have some sketches. Anyway I’ll try and connect with a new Dreaming of France post tomorrow!

Thanks, Sim, for playing along. I can't believe your museum doesn't display the Bonnards! Guess he needs to get more famous

I am not the sort of person who goes to museums but I like to have good interesting paintings on the wall and Bonnard's looks interesting, I like paintings that you see something new/different every time you look at it, I have a screen saver which is a picture of our street in 1900, its a bit grainy but I can look at it for ages and still find something different

I love d'Orsay -- my favorite of the art museums, I think. And yes, I'm familiar with Bonnard and like his work very much. But picking a favorite? That's a tough one. I was looking at images yesterday for another reason and there were so many I loved. I am extremely fond of a Renoir of a girl holding her kitten but I don't remember the name!

Come to San Francisco. There is a fabulous exhibition of Pierre Bonnard at the Legion of Honor.

Love Bonnard. Thank you for these somewhat unusual angles from the Orsay. The "fancy" restaurant there actually has a moderately priced prix fixe lunch, as I recall, and it is a classically gorgeous Parisian setting. Check out the reviews on Trip Advisor and Yelp!. Going early or late is recommended to avoid long lines, and remember to slow down and not be in too much of a hurry to rush off to the next place.
Wish I could go there tomorrow!
