Dreaming of France -- Mont St. Michel

Thank you for joining this weekly meme. Grab a copy of the photo above and link back to An Accidental Blog. Share with the rest of us your passion for France. Did you read a good book set in France? See a movie? Take a photo in France? Have an adventure? Eat a fabulous meal or even just a pastry? Or if you're in France now, go ahead and lord it over the rest of us. We can take it.

Everyone has seen the imposing structure of Mont St. Michel in Normandy which sits at the edge of the sea and sometimes is surrounded by water when the tide comes in. The rocky island has been inhabited at least since the Roman Ages. It got its name after the Archangel Michael appeared to a bishop and told him to build a church there.
Grace took this picture in 2011. .

Here are some shots from inside the walls.
Here's a close-up of the spire.

A statue of the Archangel Michael

The ubiquitous flower boxes outside French windows. And the awnings are pretty beautiful too,
not to mention the stone building. All gorgeous.
Have you visited Mont St. Michel? What was your favorite part?

I visited Mont St Michel many times as a child and teenager, it was always during the winter months and it was always freezing cold, I remember icicles hanging from the walls. In my 20's I visited again, I think that was the first time I really appreciated it.

This is such a fabulous spot. Your photos are fantastic. It was raining most of the time we were there, though we did finally get a bit of sun. It's a stunner.

Just love the abbey and to think they built it with nothing than their hands and strength, we felt like someone had died after brexit and of course Trump getting into the whitehouse effects the whole world, we must just hope for the best. Good luck with the book☺

Well, I've always loved this place, but oddly enough my most lasting memory is from FOOD at Mont St. Michel, prepared and served at La Mere Poulard, the amazing restaurant at the bottom of the Abbey. The food is exceptional: they specialize in omelets, made from hand beaten eggs from big copper pots. The uniformed kitchen staff beats the eggs as you watch, in fantastic rythms struck against the pots, with everyone joining in, like a percussion band. Wish I had a video of that...but didn't know how to make one at the time. We DID EAT some of the results, tho: fantastique! Here's a link to our omelet photo from La Mere Poulard if you are into food pics:

My memories are mixed. I loved the location, but I was travelling with very little money so spent cold and lonely hours outside monuments waiting for my travelling buddy to finish the tours that I couldn't afford to go on!

Cockadoodle Doo or Cocorico?

We stood in the middle of the road, having walked together 13 miles that day and Claudine grasped my forearm. "Mais non! It doesn'...
