First Paragraph, Tuesday Teaser -- Friday Nights

Every Tuesday, Diane at Bibliophile by the Sea posts the first paragraph of her current read. Anyone can join in. Go to Diane's website for the image and share the first paragraph of the current book you are reading.
I chose this book because I loved the cover, so whoever says "you can't judge a book by it's cover" may be right (I'll let you know) but you can certainly pick books based on their covers. Friday Nights by Joanna Trollope says a group of six women, ages 22 to retired, spend every Friday night together with a bottle of wine and without children or husbands. Then one of them meets a man who tests the group's bonds.
Here's the intro:
Toby's mother said that when Eleanor came he'd have to go down to the ground floor and help her with the lift. Toby said -- sulkily, because he was angry with her for something he couldn't quite put his finger on -- "She doesn't  need help."
Also this week  is Teaser Tuesdays. Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Open to a random page of your current read  and share a teaser sentence from somewhere on that page. BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teaser.
Here's a teaser from page 82:
"Kay, babe, we've had this conversation." He bent and picked up the portfolio. He said, "You used to believe in me."
Hope you all are reading something interesting.

Interesting cover indeed. I often choose a book based on it's cover. I probably would have picked this one up. I'll be interested to see what you think. Enjoy!

I sometimes choose a book for it's cover and after I read the book found out it was as good as the cover promised.

I've been disappointed waaay too many times with covers covering poor stories/writing!
this cover looks great [coming from a white wine fan!] not sure if the teaser piques my interest though...

I love that cover, too...and the premise of a book club that takes interesting twists and turns. Enjoy! Thanks for visiting my blog.

I'm curious about the relationship between the women and how the intrusion of a man changes things. One bottle of wine isn't much when shared among six women!
My Teaser is from SINFUL FOLK.
