Dreaming of France -- Pont du Gard

Please join this weekly meme. Grab a copy of the photo above and link back to An Accidental Blog. Share with the rest of us your passion for France. Did you read a good book set in France? See a movie? Take a photo in France? Have an adventure? Eat a fabulous meal or even just a pastry? Or if you're in France now, go ahead and lord it over the rest of us. We can take it.
Maybe we can all satisfy our yearnings for France, until we get there again.
This week I'm sharing with you some photos from our 2002 bicycle trip in Provence.
We rented bikes and they were fabulously sleek. The company delivered them to our hotel in Avignon. We had planned a 40-mile bike ride to Nimes and along the route, we'd see the famous Roman Aqueduct Pont du Gard.
From this angle, it just looks like some magnificent Roman engineering. We got to actually ride our bikes across it.

Look at this picture of me and the bikes. We are so small compared to the aqueduct.
The only problem that day, was we didn't pack food to eat during the bike ride. We were still in an American frame of mind and assumed we would stop for whaatever we needed to eat -- you know, at a French 7/11.
Well, those don't appear too often in France. So we rode without food and I got grumpy.
Here I am, in desparate need of chocolate. We never rode without chocolate again.
We still consider this our best couple vacation ever.

Oh I hate that feeling- it's terrible getting stuck without food. I must admit to laughing at your grumpy-chocolate-starved pout. Thankfully noones been brave enough to take a picture of mine. Looks a lovley place though- I really must get to the south of France one of these days.

The notion of a French 7-11 made me laugh, as did your grumpy face. It also reminded me of the the story John Travolta tells Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction. He asks him 'you know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese'. Jackson says 'don't they call it a quarter pounder with cheese. Travolta explains that the French use the metric system so the American name is meaningless. Hence the quarter pounder with cheese is Le Royale with cheese.
Astonishing aquaduct, btw!

Ha ha - I never leave the house without a 75% bar of dark chocolate - better to be prepared. We did a couple of days on our bikes last summer and I cycled all the first day and until lunch the second day with a tin of tuna so we could make our lunch. Not only was it heavy, but I could feel it pushing into my back all the way. At least we didn't go hungry!

I think I"m in, but believe I clicked too fast. I'll watch and see.

Back home and still amazed I could keep up the pace in Paris for nine days running! Whew.

You do not look that happy there. I have always wanted to do a bike trip in France. Even if I go for a short 15 mile ride I have learned to always have food with me. You are right though hit a town at the wrong time and everything is closed.

Sounds like me when we're on a driving trip, grumpy and wanting something other than gas station food!
I'm always wishing for that perfect cafe with great food but we have been known to finally get a cellophane wrapped sandwich made of sawdust.

Cockadoodle Doo or Cocorico?

We stood in the middle of the road, having walked together 13 miles that day and Claudine grasped my forearm. "Mais non! It doesn'...
