Dreaming of France -- Mont St. Michel

Thank you for joining this weekly meme. Grab a copy of the photo above and link back to An Accidental Blog. Share with the rest of us your passion for France. Did you read a good book set in France? See a movie? Take a photo in France? Have an adventure? Eat a fabulous meal or even just a pastry? Or if you're in France now, go ahead and lord it over the rest of us. We can take it.

Everyone has seen the imposing structure of Mont St. Michel in Normandy which sits at the edge of the sea and sometimes is surrounded by water when the tide comes in. The rocky island has been inhabited at least since the Roman Ages. It got its name after the Archangel Michael appeared to a bishop and told him to build a church there.
Grace took this picture in 2011. .

Here are some shots from inside the walls.
Here's a close-up of the spire.

A statue of the Archangel Michael

The ubiquitous flower boxes outside French windows. And the awnings are pretty beautiful too,
not to mention the stone building. All gorgeous.
Have you visited Mont St. Michel? What was your favorite part?

Autumn is my favorite time of year.
I know people say that autumn makes people ready to start something new -- a new school year or a return to the job. For me, I really long for France in Autumn. I've had two terrific vacations in France in the fall.
So here are a couple of photos of Autumn in France.

This one was taken in Normandy. I know the sky is clearer and bluer in the fall. That's definitely true here with the fading leaves in the foreground.
And here's a square in Aix en Provence with the sun and shadows making pictures on the buildings.
Shall I meet you at the cafe there and we'll have a glass of wine and enjoy the sunshine?

Maybe we can all satisfy our yearnings for France, until we get there again.
Of course, we Americans have a lot of history in France. France was there for us during our Revolutionary War, and we were there for them during many wars, including World War II.
One of the characters, in my novel was a soldier in World War II who ended up marrying a Frenchwoman and staying there.
Here's a photo from the American cemetery in Saint-James, Normandy near the northeast edge of Brittany.

And here's a detail shot of the archway above the door.
The soil may not be American, but it's consecrated by their sacrifices.

Many people visit Paris in August, but mostly they run into other tourists. This year, there seem to be fewer tourists throughout the city ...
